Topic: The effects of steroid abuse

Thesis:

As millions of Americans observe, a seemingly continuous surge of sports icons continue being questioned and prosecuted for their alleged usage of anabolic steroids. The damaging effects of these iconic athletes poor judgment, reaches much further than their careers and respected organizations, but also convey destructive and often lifetime effects onto the nations youth.

Proposal:

As the United States continues along its path of instant gratification, even the “most talented” and “athletic” individuals are trading hard work and dedication for the instantaneous results gained through anabolic steroids. Too many iconic figures in the sports world are choosing to “juice” in hopes of reaching a superior level in their respective sport. Their choice is not only destructive to their own health and to integrity of their sport, but also to the millions of children across the country who have come to idolize these sports icons. Through this paper, I hope to bring forth not only the reasons for not taking steroids and why they should be banned in sports, but also the devastating effects that steroid use by professionals can have on the youth of this nation.

Conclusion:

Although everyday people and athletes alike continue abusing anabolic steroids in hopes of achieving a heightened level of athletic performance, the damaging effects are far longer lasting than the temporary gratification. Lesson such as the one previously mentioned must be taught and enforced by all levels of education and government in any hopes of winning the battle against anabolic steroid abuse.

  1. Drew, Everything sounds very interesting. I'm sure you plan to do so, but maybe you could give examples of certain athletes who have done steroids, and explain how it affected their career. Excited to hear more about this!

  2. Are you going to focus more on the damage to the players or to the fans who support them? Either way it will be good paper, I'm just wondering what your main point will be.

  3. you should address the fact that whether players feel its necessary to use steroids in order to keep up with the other athletes who are using them. And to help prove that using steroids isn't necessary you could use examples like Michael Phelps.
