I. Introduction.
a. My opening paragraph will center on the question: Should celebrities bear any responsibility for being a role model for children? I will define what a celebrity is and I will talk about the ability they have to influence children. I will write about how there are celebrities who use their stardom for good and they are a positive influence in children’s life. However, many celebrities have been in the news recently making bad decisions. These decisions have the ability to dramatically influence children’s life. I will include my thesis and end by saying many circumstances recently have made me believe that celebrities are not doing everything they can to be positive role models for children.
b. Thesis: Since celebrities are in the public eye at all times, how they choose to behave is very important. With recent events involving alcohol, drugs, and racy photographs, these people are affecting children in a negative way.
II. Celebrities choose to get involved with alcohol.
a. Dangers of drinking and driving
b. Bad health effects
c. Young celebrities are either photographed underage drinking or they choose to endorse the product.
d. This makes alcohol more appealing to impressionable children, which encourages drinking at an early age.
III. Drugs
a. Starts who are top of the world come crashing down because of one bad decision
b. Children begin to think drugs are cool because the people they look up to do it.
c. Cost of drugs
d. Lindsey Lohan, Michael Phelps
e. Situation at University of South Carolina
IV. Racy Photos
a. Many young celebrities choose to pose nude for magazines
b. This distorts body image for young children- especially girls
c. They start to see that these celebrities don’t respect their body, so why should they.
V. Some celebrities don’t respect the rules.
a. They don’t care about what is right and wrong and they think that they can get away with anything
VI. Good celebrities
a. Some celebrities choose to use their fame for the good
b. Countless charities have been started by stars
c. Many donate their money to charities.
d. These stars have the ability to influence children in a good way.
VII. Conclusion:
a. In my conclusion I will restate all the previous points I have made. I will say that many good things have come from celebrities and they use their stardom for good at many times. However, there are the celebrities who act in negatives ways which distract from the good work some stars are doing.
b. Children are very impressionable and celebrities are viewed at a higher level than average people. Celebrities should focus on positive ways to affect the community.
c. In conclusion, I will state that celebrities should bear a responsibility for influencing children.

This is a very good outline! I think all of your points are needed to make your argument effective and I like how you plan to talk about all of the good that celebrities have done to create somewhat of a counter argument. Nice job! I think your paper will be both organized and effective.
ReplyDeleteI really like your outline! All of it is very interesting and your main topics are good. The only question I had reading through it was "what kind of drugs?" Lindsay and Phelp have done different ones I think. Besides that, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteawesome topic! you could also include how the media can manipulate a photo or a celebrity to look a certain way? there are crazy celebrities out there but the media definitely makes everything worse
ReplyDeleteMegan, don't give a definition for something that is common knowledge. Unless you will transform, shift, or play with the definition of a celebrity, there is no reason to give it.
ReplyDeleteStay away from the words good and bad, positive and negative.
Your argument is that it is part of a celebrity's responsibility to be good role models. There are people who would argue against that, which is good. However, I wonder if you can beef your argument up a little. Add more controversy or urgency to the paper.
