Proposal

Proposal

Thesis: Currently America is facing financial hardships that at the present seem to be taking devastating tolls on the country from an economic standpoint, but with the legalization of marijuana America could help close the gap to achieving economic security.

Points:

The current economic position of America

Analysis of the financial market and government expenditures

How the government appropriates money

Alternative solutions to solving this crisis

Intro to weed as a cash crop

Where it is best to be grown

How America would be well situated to grow weed

Its success thus far being the number 1 cash crop

How it accumulates more revenue then wheat and corn combined in certain states (two of the biggest cash crops in the country)

How it can help decrease unemployment rates and contribute to more activity in the work force

Intro to government taxation

How if weed was taxed the monetary benefits could be helpful to stimulate the current American economy

Regulations on the distribution of marijuana to make sure the government receives the tax money

How the current medicinal marijuana program is working and its success and its failures

Opposition to marijuana being legalized

Conclusion:  If the government was to legalize the production and retail distribution of marijuana and tax the processes the result could lead to helping solve America’s current financial crisis.  Although the government revenue appropriated through the taxation would not completely solve this crisis it would definitely help lower the current national debt.  Also the funds appropriated could be used to help stimulate the economy so other methods of approaching a stable economic equilibrium would become more possible.  So in legalizing the production and retail of marijuana the monetary benefits of taxation on this good would help lead to a more financially secure economy.

  1. Sounds like a very interesting topic. Maybe you could provide sources of people who support this idea.

  2. Pretty freaking interesting topic! I know there are pros and cons to the legalization of marijuana, but I'm really interested to see what you find. When discussing the opposition side, maybe you could talk about how technically marijuana is better for you than cigarettes? I mean don't get mean wrong I'm not like everyone go smoke weed. You could maybe write a paragraph on why weed is illegal in the first place.

  4. I like your facts and main points. I think the more detailed you are the more convincing your argument will be.

  5. Good suggestions from Collin and Kim.

Make sure that your sources are reputable. There is a section in the book (I don't have it with me to refer to the page number) that explains how to judge a source. Maybe look in the index under sources or research or something like that.
