Wednesday stuff

It has been argued that video games today have been way too violent. There have even been attempts in some states to ban the selling of “M” (Mature or recommended for people 18 and older) rated games and games with what some consider “too much violence”. The state of California has attempted multiple times to ban the selling of M. This has been ruled unconstitutional. I believe that games with violence in them should not be banned. This choice should not be made be made by anyone in the government, but by parents at home. About 95% of the video games that is produced today have violence involved in some form or another. The amount of violence differs depending on the game. Some games may have blood going everywhere while others have hitting goofy monsters that turn into smoke when they get hurt. I see no reason to hurt the sales of video games just because some people believe that it is too violent. Parents could simply not let their kid get the game if they have a problem with them playing it. If parents don’t make these decision I don’t see whose job it is to decide which ones should be made and sold.

The rating system of games
Some famous games that have been controversial
Attempts to ban violent games
How parents should fix the problem

Introduction
Since games have started getting more realistic, there has been a lot more complaints about how violent games are getting. In some states, like California, there have been attempts by government officials to ban games like Grand Theft Auto. I think that video games should not be limited by the government, but by the parents of the kids who buy the game.

Conclusion
Video games have been getting bad reputation ever since they got more realistic. People should stop leaving problem for the government to handle when it should be dealt with in the home. The video game industry is a booming one that should not be affected by bad choices of the consumers.

  1. i find this to be an interesting topic, but i feel like your addressing too much at once. is your main topic about how violence in games affect kids or just violence within games? if its about how video games are detrimental to youth than you should talk about some of the problems that have occured to children who play the violent games.

  2. Great topic. It seems really interesting. But could you possible tell a little more about why the government wants to ban it.

  3. Because of the nature of the topic, you'll have to address a counterargument the for the whole paper. If you wanted, you could find an article (any article) that you disagree with and respond to it in your paper. You'll also have to disprove the negative affects that Mature video games have on kids (after you first explain these mythological affects).
