Thesis- Race and Ethnicity has been the root of several conflicts in American history and has proven to be a continuous endeavor, beginning with the creation of America, slavery, and the Civil Rights Movement.
Proposal- My proposal for my topic is to address how race and ethnicity has and will forever be a critical part of American Society. The purpose for the creation of America was based on Europeans looking for religious freedom and equality. Yet, they defeated the formation of the country by forcing Native Americans away and by capturing Africans as slaves. And if America was suppose to be a land of equality than why couldn’t the conflicts be addressed without battles or wars? Even when MLK tried to acknowledge the problem using non-violence, conflicts still occurred. Nevertheless, even in today’s society race and ethnicity are greatly considered.
Points-
The purpose for which America was founded
How they were hypocritical
Native Americans being forced out of native land
How that problem was handled
Africans were forced into slavery and were given no right
How that problem was addressed
Equality still not present and how it lead to the civil rights movement
How that the civil rights movement was dealt with
Conclusion- America is undeniably one of the best countries to live in but yet still contains several discrepancies. It neglects the very reason it was founded, America did not follow what they initially set out for by suppressing others throughout the years. If a person was not white and Christian, they were considered inferior and American equality did not count for them. The mistreatment of minorities was crucial being that several conflicts in history have been related back to race and ethnicity.
I'm not sure if your thesis can be argued against; most people acknowledge it to be true. I have heard people argue about how big an effect racism has in society today, so that may be the thing to focus on.
ReplyDeleteGreat topic, but what are you agruing in your thesis. Also, your prosposal talks about a lot of good information, butit doesn't really tell where you are going to go with it. Good conclusion.
ReplyDeleteI agree with aboyd. Your paper lacks direction. You rely on history to give it direction, which means that you give control of you paper to history. You are the writer. Take control of your paper. You cannot give a historical survey (summary) of race in the United States, so you have to organize your paper by using themes or ideas. What are these themes or ideas?
ReplyDeleteAlso, America includes North, South, and Middle America. North America is a continent that includes Mexico and Canada. You are talking about a country-the United States of America.
