Research proposal

The health of the United States of America is at stake. Many of the US’s political leaders want America to go to a national health care insurance system. Switching to a national health care system would mean that the government financed all health care, owned all hospitals and controlled the salaries of all hospital workers, and that private pay for any service covered by the government would be illegal. It would mean the end of private practice hospitals and doctors and private insurance companies. While “free” health insurance may sound appealing, it really is not free and comes with a high cost to one’s health and possibly life. A national health care system would lead to poor quality in the health of the United States' population because it would lead to inadequate facilities, doctors, medcine, and equipment. The national health care systems in Canada and Europe prove this.
In this research paper I plan to explore the effects a national health care system will have on national health. From my tentative research a national public insurance program is not all it’s cracked up to be. There have been several studies and surveys conducted in Great Britain and Canada on their health care systems’ lack of efficiency in improving the health of the whole nation. In my paper I want to discuss the findings of these studies. I wish to look at the effects a national healthcare system will have on the quality and availability of doctors, nurses, medicine, facilities, and also the latest technology. I plan to prove that the poor quality and availabilty of these items leads to poor public health. I also plan to look at how patient care is negatively affected by the long waiting lists, or even denial, for hospital beds, medical procedures, medical tests, and specialists that national health care would create. The overall conclusion I will come to is that a national health care policy would be detrimental to the people of the United States.

  1. Good proposal. You could mention specifically what plans Barack has for a free health care system. This would provide even more support for your argument

  2. I like your proposal, especially since I'm not one that usually understands anything relating to the government. I would suggest cutting down some of the lists of things you plan to talk about; it's kind of overwhelming.

  3. This is a good proposal. In your paper it would be interesting to compare the various nationalized health care systems to the private ones such as the united states.

  4. your proposal was really good although you have alot of topic points. you should narrow some out and it will be even more appealing

  5. I think you've picked a really good topic, especially with all the recent talk about it in the presidential election. Will you offer an alternative to a national healthcare system?

  6. Questions I had while reading your proposal:
What is the alternative? What is the difference between private practice hospitals and regular ones? Why would private practices be shut down? What about the people who can't afford health insurance? What about the outrageous prices for healthcare? What good is having a system in place for the nation that so many people can use (low income)? What does the new president say about this issue? If Europeans and Canadians suffer so much, why don't they implement our system?
