Topic: possible alternative energy sources
Thesis: The United States' dependency on foreign oil could be easily broken and air quality drastically improved if sufficient funds are invested in research and infrastructure to support either ethanol, electric, solar, or hydrogen fuel cells as America's primary fuel source.

Your topic is to broad in my opinion....you may be able to limit it more by saying why one alternative energy sources is better then one other specific one.

I agree with Ryan. Looking at all four of those energy sources is way too much information to research. You can limit it to one, or maybe even two wouldn't be too much.
