Thesis: Although the SAT and ACT have been important to college admissions in the past, they are not accurate indicators of a student's success in college and should be less significant than other admission factors such as GPA, class rank, and leadership positions.

Great selection for a controversial topic. One piece of advice that you might choose to write upon is the controversy between act and sat scores themselves. Further how some schools require either an SAT/ACT and not the other, or both. Good luck the research leading up to this paper, it should be intriguing.

Everyone can identify with this topic. Another thing you may want to discuss related to standardized testing is how it is not a good indicator because of the stress it puts on students to perform well.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great topic! It is something that everyone has had to face at sometime in their life. I would maybe include all standardized tests but mainly focus on SAT/ACT, then you could have some more examples.
ReplyDeleteMegan, this was my first reaction. Students who continue school beyond the undergraduate level have to take the GRE General, GRE Subject, MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, etc. However, rather than include all standardized tests in your indictment, Leanna, you may simply want to include them in your research. Look at the differences between some of them. As Drew said, how is the SAT different from the ACT? Does one test address issues that the other neglects? What about the GRE Subject test?
ReplyDeleteDoing this kind of research will allow you to include more varied and explored ideas and assertions in your paper, even though you will only analyze the SAT and ACT in detail.
