Topic and Thesis

Topic: Study the positive and negative effects of divorce on children and how these can have a long term effect

Thesis: Divorce can be a catastrophe that effects more than just the husband and wife. A healthy or unhealthy divorce can have a serious impact on the family members involved, especially children. More than one million children are affected emotionally, psychologically, and physically through divorces.

  1. That is a very good topic that people can relate to; I'll be interested to see what you research! In your thesis, I would try to make your argument a little more clear. Make sure it directs the paper and tells exactly what you're going to be addressing. Are you only focusing on the negative aspects and effects of divorce? Also I would maybe focus on one or two areas of how the child is affected (maybe it's up to you). Great start though!

  2. Very interesting topic! The thesis presents a good idea, but you could probably combine some of the sentences. Just a suggestion, you could restate the first two sentences as:

Healthy or unhealthy, divorce can be a catastrophe that effects not only the husband and wife, but can also seriously impact the family members involved, especially children.

  3. Great topic! I think I also be interested by your paper. The thesis addresses a great idea about your topic, and it’s very arguably.

  4. i didn't really see how your thesis says anything about positive effects.

  5. This is a very interesting topic. I think your thesis does a great job of touching on the ways children are impacted. It might be good if you cut out some of the extra wording and condensed it a little more.

  6. Your topic is way to broad. You should focus on how it affects children in a specific way like crime or violence.

  7. Definitely a great topic. Many of us are children of divorce. I like how specific your thesis is in saying what you will write about.

  8. Good topic and comments. Maricel, don't be coy: tell us exactly what you are going to talk about. I appreciate that you want to show both sides of the argument. In an argumentative paper, it's not about choosing sides: it's about making an assertion. This can be any argument, not just for or against, pro or con. Howver, be careful that this paper is not just informative research. Make sure that you have an argument all the way through the paper.
